Food Drive and Alzheimer's Foundation Presentation and Announcement at school assembly

Yesterday, on the 30th of November, Wednesday, Harini, my partner and I began our first initiation of the plan collaboratively. We first organized the presentation to be held, after continuous discussion on the memory walk and the Food Drive. As the new daycare center for Alzheimer's Foundation was recently opened and the center provides meals, we thought that we could donate dry food items in order to support and help a smooth start and maintenance. We thus collaborated and communicated with the founder of the center in order to deepen our understanding of the situation at the center and ask for what types of food items they need. Having decided and spread out the list of food items, we organized what each grade level could bring to their homerooms for donations.

Based on our such decision, we wanted to inform the school community and raise awareness about our activity and the ways in which everyone can help and be caring for the patients. After preparation of the presentation, we asked the Grade 11 girls in our group to make a presentation. However, as some were absent without a notice in advance, it was a bit frustrating for me and Harini and we decided to do it ourselves. It was sudden and unexpected and was a challenge for us, because we had no chance to practice what we would say. Making a presentation when not having prepared much in such an unexpected situation was not easy and we admit that the quality of the presentation did not satisfy us or meet our standards compared to our previous works. However, it was also a good opportunity for us to adapt to unexpected or unfamiliar situations, recognize what we can do in such situation, communicate between ourselves effectively and swiftly for a right decision and take risks in order to communicate with the whole school community in order to raise awareness for the food drive, which is one of the very practical and meaningful works we could do as leaders of this project.
