Aims for CAS; Officially Moved In!

I have felt a need to re-create the blog for my DP year, instead of continuing with my old blog which I have set up in Grade 10. Thus, I would like to take this opportunity to restate my goal and stay more focused and balanced.

My Goals for CAS

Now that my IB years have begun, CAS will play a major role and I will use this blog to write about and reflect on what I did. It would be important to have clear-set goals that I would aim to achieve which will help me stay on track and focused.
CAS, standing for Creativity, Action and Service, is a central part of the DP programme, which I am invovled in and hope to make a sucess for next 2 years. I will strive to be invovled in a range of challenging activities and thus pursue my own individual interests despite some rigorous academic demands of the syllabus and develop an awareness of different cultures.

Creativity:

  • Playing piano would be one of my biggest hobbies and interests of my life but unfortunately, there is no music offered as a subject in school. Since I not only want to keep my interests and skills but also develop them, I will make it my goal to learn, master and possibly interpret different music pieces and songs and take official lessons once a week. I would aim to learn and master at least 10 major pieces in a year, which seems challenging and yet practical enough for me to achieve. As a long term goal, I would like to work towards getting a diploma by taking exams. Piano would help me to become more aware of my own areas of strengths and areas for growth; show perseverance and commitment as I hope to learn something more demanding and high-technique pieces.
  • I will also take part in MUN, which will help me to learn about different issues around the globe, debate for a stance and thus improve my collaborative and speech skills. This will help me cultivate perseverane and become more knowledgeable because it is very demanding in terms of both quality and quantity of the research and preparation and use such understanding to communicate with others and work collaboratively and learning to repsect others' opinions.

Action:
  • I will be taking a step out of my comfort zone and try something new and active: Tennis. I will take tennis lessons with my friend each week and my goals are to learn and apply new skills and concepts and be able to play a good match later on. This will also help me to step outside my comfort zone because it is a new kind of sport activities for me, thus undergoing a new challenge and hopefully getting another hobby. This will help me to learn perseverance as it is a set of completely new skills, rules and techniques which I need to learn well and pracitce continuously.

  • Also, in order to stay fit, I will exercise at least 3 days each week at a gym. This will help me to stay balanced and fit, which is necessary to survive the IB DP years! I will do 10 minutes of anaerobic (muscular) exercise and 30 minutes of aerobic exercice each time minimum and gradually  lengthen it as time passes. I will make weekly/monthly reflections on this.

Service:

  • As a service activity at school, I am involved Alzheimer's Group which happens on Thursdays after school. Diseases, it has been one of my interests and I witnessed some patients and thier families who had been affected by diseases like Alzheimer's ands Parkinsons'. Thus, I have a sense of how tragic diseases of this sort can be which motivated me to join this group to learn more about issues regarding this disease and become part of the solution/help that will benefit those who have to suffer. This will help me to become more sympathetic for the community, both in a local and global scale.

  • I also plan to do something outside the school, working for a local hospital/clinic on a regular basis. I always had passion/interest in this respect and I hope to be of some help and also learn different aspects that go around a hospital, where attempts to make peoples' lives better are made.
